What is Earthing and does my pool fence need this?

Earthing of spigots is an important consideration when installing pool fencing. Electrical safety laws (under AS3000:2018) and wiring rules contain provisions regarding earthing within “arm’s reach” (1250mm) of the pool water edge.
Earthing reduces the risk of an electrical shock should there be an electrical fault. The cost involved of earthing spigots is generally high. Importantly, earthing contemplates conductive materials.
Alternatively, DIY Frameless Glass sell a a spigot insulator which can be sleeved over our range of stainless steel Madrid base plated or core drill spigot whereby it is not possible to touch the metal spigot. In this way, the installed spigot is completely insulated and non-conductive to touch. Materials which are non-conductive do not require earthing.

*The details provided here are informative only; pool owners are better served to contact your specific requirements with a licensed and experienced electrician for specific queries about all aspects of interpreting the requirements of AS3000:2018 and how this legislation might affect your pool.
